Sarah was last night awarded Dux-School Captain-Citizenship Award

Last night our darling 16 year old daughter Sarah got 3 awards:
School Dux
School Captain for 2013
Edith Cowan University Citizenship Award

At aged 10 she wrote this poem.

The Nature of Past and Present

I am a child
I am all the things of the past
I am the new seedling of laughter in my Dad’s heart
I am the cute cookie monster of my Mum’s baking

I am all I see
The shiniest rain drop on a spider web
The last falling orange leaf in autumn
And a colorful rainbow at the first sign of spring

I am all I hear
The crazy laugh of the Australian kookaburra
The purr of Pingu
And the beautiful songs sung by the wind and trees

I am all I feel and taste
The soft tender love of my family
The magic meals made in my Dad’s playpen
And the feel of Pingu’s delicate soft silky feathers

I am all I remember
Pingu running up onto my arm
The group hugs of my family
The buzz of bees
The wonder of happiness that a letter can bring
From the other side of the world

I am all I have been taught
My Mum’s table manners
My love towards animals
And the trust and power of a friendship

I am all I believe
The smallest seed will make the biggest tree
The dullest pearl will be loved the shiniest one will only blind
The power of friendship and love is more powerful than anything

I am all those things
I am like a tree
And these things are my leaves and branches
And one day I will find a way out because I am the soul of the future.

Dear Sarah
Your poem is very beautiful. You have a light in you that shines through your writing like a bright star. I think you will probably be a great writer if you follow that path.
Very much love to you and your family, from your aunt,

And being proud parents we just had to mention our daughter Catherine who just had her first book published after getting 1st class hons and a double doctorate scholarship

All 3 of our girls are heading into medicine driven I guess by seeing their brother Nick nearly dying from the effects of crohn's disease. Nick has another operation coming up early 2013 and our thoughts are with him as always.

My Hero Anousheh Ansari

On September 18, 2006, Anousheh Ansari captured headlines around the world as the first female private space explorer. Anousheh earned a place in history as the fourth private explorer to visit space and the first astronaut of Iranian descent.
My dad has driven all over Iran and he says all the people were really nice and wrote a story about it.

Anousheh's Goals

As a Space Ambassador, act as a messenger to create public awareness and stimulate grassroots enthusiasm about the virtues of space exploration;
To inspire youth, and especially girls, around the world to pursue their dreams; and,
To promote peace and understanding amongst nations as the world’s first Space Ambassador.
